has had a riveting year with great films like "Oloibiri," "The
Arbitration," "Green White Green," "93 Days," Wives on
Strike" among others.
Also in 2016, eight Nollywood films got to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival as
part of the festival's City to City programme.
It's two more months before the end of 2016, and the
Nigerian film industry still has more to offer movie lovers.
Pulse movies have put together five Nollywood movies to
watch out for before the end of the year.
Here we go:
1. "Ayamma"
Synopsis
Set in a fictitious village somewhere in Ibibio land in
beautiful Akwa Ibom state, ‘Ayamma’ is the story of Ihuoma, the poor but
beautiful village maiden with the voice of an angel.
Her voice coming out of the forest, so haunts Prince
Daraima, the handsome heir to the throne that he does all he can to reach her
so as to claim her hand in marriage. His efforts are however, constantly
thwarted by the envious Princess Ama a princess from a neighbouring village,
betrothed to Prince Daraima and who will stop at nothing to secure her rightful
place as his bride.
All this is played out under the watchful gaze of his
younger brother Ekong who harbours his own dark secret. Set in the lush, green
fertile land of Akwa Ibom state, Ayamma is a sweeping epic that transports us
into a magical world of music, dance and drama.
The movie stars Wale Ojo, Majid Michel, Adesua
Etomi, Theresa Edem, Ime Bishop Umoh, Moses Armstrong and Ekere Ekanga.
"Ayamma" will premiere in Nigeria on December
23, 2016.
Synopsis:
Set in Lagos, Nigeria, "The Wedding Party" is
a riveting tale of the complexity of love. It is the story of Dunni Coker, a 24
year old art gallery owner and only daughter of her parents about to marry the
love of her life, IT entrepreneur Dozie. The couple took a vow of chastity and
is looking forward to a ground-breaking first night together as a married
couple.
The date has been set and the bride’s parents, who have
recently enjoyed a surge in their fortunes, are going all out to make this the
wedding of the century. Dunni’s about to be mother-in-law, Obianuju, is having
second thoughts about allowing her son marry into a family she considers as
beneath them.
Between matchmaking attempts on the bridal train, a
wedding planner on a mission to succeed, the unruly behaviour of some ‘village’
guests and the groom’s ex-girlfriends looking to make their mark, it is clear
the Wedding Party will be the talk of the town.
Will it all be too much to bear for the bride or will
true love stand even the most chaotic of wedding celebrations?
The romantic comedy stars Adesua Etomi as Dunni
Coker, Banky W as Dozie, Alibaba and Sola
Sobowale as Dunni’s parents, and Ireti Doyle and Richard Mofe-Damijo as
Dozie’s parents.
"The Wedding Party" also stars Zainab
Balogun, AY, Ikechukwu, Beverly Naya, Emma OhMaGod, Lepacious Bose amongst
others.
"The Wedding Party" will be in Nigeria cinemas
from December 16, 2016.
3. "3 Wise Men"
Synopsis:
After many years of service in different government
parastatals, the three aged men are retired and they all settled in a
suburb to enjoy their retirement benefits.
The movie revolves around how they decide to spend their
retirement money.
"Three Wise Men" was previously scheduled to
premiere on October 28, 2016. A new release date is yet to be announced.
4. "Dinner"
A star studded movie, "Dinner" stars Deyemi
Okanlawon, Kehinde Bankole, Enyinna Nwigwe, Keira Hewatch, Okey Uzoeshi,
RMD and Ireti Doyle.
Synopsis:
Mike Okafor is invited by his childhood friend and
buddy; Adetunde George Jnr, to have ‘ DINNER' and spend the weekend with him
and his fiancée Lola Coker as they plan for their upcoming wedding.
Mike decides to come along with his girlfriend Diane
Bassey, as he plans to propose to her.
Things get out of hand when they arrive at Adetunde’s
house and they get to find out secrets about each other’s relationship and the
one person in the middle of it all.
“Dinner” will be out in cinemas across the nation on
November 11, 2016.
5. "76"
Synopsis:
Six years after the civil war, a young officer from the
middle belt gets entangled in a romantic relationship with a beautiful O-Level
student from the Southeastern part of Nigeria.
Their budding romance was almost ruptured by endless
military postings. Now heavily pregnant her walls came crumbling when the news
of her husband's involvement in a botched coup attempt hits the headlines.
The anticipated movie stars talented actors like Ramsey
Nouah, Rita Dominic, Ibinabo Fiberesima, Chidi Mokeme, Memry Savanhu, Adonijah
Owuruwa, Daniel K. Daniel, Nelly Ekwereogu and Shuaibu Ebenehi Adams.
"76” will be out in cinemas across the nation in
November.
