Never Stop Loving
Some Nollywood stars who quit acting in the
90s made our childhood days memorable and lit, while some are still around
entertaining their loyal fans. Their roles in classic movies helped set the
pace for the industry we’ve come to love dearly today.
These great actors
have been involved in one scandal or another and some have managed to remain
scandal free. Amidst their endless dramas, their fans still can’t bear not
seeing them on their TV screens. They also look out for their movies either on
DVD or in the cinemas.
Legit.ng has come up with a list of Nollywood actors we will never stop
loving:
LADIES:
The world can never get
enough of talented Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji. The 39-year-old diva is
also a movie producer, director, screenwriter and former model. She reportedly
welcomed her first child at the age of 16 and did not let that affect her
studies or movie career. Having joined the industry in her teenage years, the
delectable actress has featured in countless movies both local and
international.
Her latest movie, Lionheart,
made millions of naira after it was bought by Netflix. Nnaji, a millionaire,
has reportedly delved into real estate in Abuja.
2. Omotola
Jalade-Ekeinde:
Born February 7, 1978,
the 41-year-old actress is loved by many. Omotola is not just an actress, who
has featured in countless movies, the beautiful woman is also a singer and has bagged
loads of awards. The beautiful screen goddess recently produced a movie, Alter
Ego. This movie bagged many awards and got lots of nominations both home and
abroad.
In 2012, she launched her
own reality show, Omotola: The Real Me, on Africa Magic Entertainment, an M-Net
subsidiary broadcast on DStv. This made her the first Nigerian celebrity to
star in her own reality show.
It could be recalled that
Omotola Jalade got married to her pilot sweetheart, Captain Matthew Ekeinde in
1996 and together they have four lovely children.
3. Sola Sobowale:
She is fondly called,
Toyin Tomato. Beautiful Sola Sobowale is also a screenwriter, producer, actress
and movie director. She is loved for her ‘dramatic’ roles in movies and every
producer/director is happy working with her because she interprets her roles
perfectly.
Sobowale began her acting
career as a member of the Awada Kerikeri Group under the leadership of Adebayo
Salami. She made her first film debut in 1992 in the film, Asewo to re Mecca,
and has since featured in lots of movies.
The beautiful woman
recently featured in award winning movies, The Wedding Party 1 & 2 and
Kings of Boys. She is a showstopper and loves stunning on the red carpets.
4. Funke
Akindele-Bello:
When it comes to listing
top Nollywood screen divas, talented Funke Akindele-Bello, will always top the
list. Popularly known as Jenifa because of her lead role in her TV soap opera,
Jenifa’s Diary, she became a TV sensation after her role in popular sitcom I
Need to Know from 1998 to 2002.
Funke Akindele is one
actress who knows her onions and never fails to deliver once given a script.
She recently featured in the movies, King of Boys, Mom’s at War, to mention a
few.
She was once married to
one Kehinde Oloyede, who is the CEO of Al-Maroof but the union hit the rocks
few years after. She did not give up on love but gave it a second chance in the
arms of talented singer, JJC Skillz. The couple welcomed their first babies
(twins) in December 9, 2018.
5. Joke Silva:
Popularly known as Mummy
J, talented movie star Joke Silva is married to Nollywood legend, Olu Jacobs.
Silva has starred in numerous films and television series in both the English
and Yoruba languages. One of her earliest roles was in the 1990 English film,
Mind Bending.
Till date, Mummy J
remains a force to be reckoned with in the movie industry.
MEN:
1. Richard Mofe
Damijo (RMD):
RMD is known as one of
Nollywood’s sweethearts and loved by fans. After graduating from the
university, he took part in a television soap opera in the late 80s called,
Ripples. He has featured in loads of blockbuster movies ever since.
Aside from being a
talented actor, the grandpa is loved by many for his fashion sense and
charisma. He strikes the pose of a perfect gentleman. He was once the
commissioner for culture and tourism in Delta state. RMD was once married to
journalist, May Ellen-Ezekiel, but after her death in 1996, he got married TV
personality, Jumobi Adegbesan.
2. Ramsey Tokunbo
Nouah:
With his lover-boy’s
looks, Ramsey Nouah is another bunch of talent in the Nigerian movie industry.
Nouah was born in Edo State to an Isreali father and a Yoruba mother who hails
from Owo, Ondo state. Nouah's acting career kicked off when he starred in the
Nigerian TV soap opera, Fortunes. He has since then appeared in numerous films
starring as the lead role.
3. Odunlade
Adekola:
Odunlade Adekola is an
actor, singer, producer and movie director. Although he grew up in Abeokuta,
Ogun state, the movie star hails from Otun Ekiti, Ekiti state. Odunlade studied
business administration at the University of Lagos (Unilag) where he
bagged a degree in May 2018.
In December 2015,
Odunlade paved his way into the Nigerian music industry. However, due to his
popularity and impact in the film industry, pictures of him during filming were
widely used as internet memes. He is happily married and blessed with four
handsome boys.
4. Olu Jacobs:
This is one of the
greatest Nollywood ever-liveths. Born Olufotun Baiyewu Jacobs, the movie legend
hails from Egba Alake but spent his early childhood in Kano, and attended Holy
Trinity School where he was a member of the debating and drama societies. After
studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, he starred in various
British television shows and series in the 1970s.
Olu Jacobs is married to
veteran actress Joke Silva and the union is blessed with wonderful children.
5. Pete Edochie:
Chief Pete Edochie is
considered one of Africa’s most talented actors, being honoured with an
Industry Merit Award by Africa Magic and Lifetime Achievement by Africa Film
Academy. Although a seasoned administrator and broadcaster, he came into
prominence in the 1980s when he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA
adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all-time bestselling novel, Things Fall Apart.
