THE DATE: The date for this year’s event is Monday, June 20, 2016.
THE VENUE: Because the venue fits what we do – a lecture, we are returning to the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), on Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
THE TIME: We have chosen 10 o’clock to begin the year’s event. However, the lecture proper will take off by 11am. By which time nearly all our guests would have arrived, settled down and exchanged enough pleasantries with our other guests to put them in the mood for the lecture.
THE GUEST SPEAKER: Our Guest Speaker this year is Dr. Gabriel Ogbechie, the multi-millionaire behind Rainoil Limited. The astute and eloquent businessman will be sharing his experience on ‘RUNNING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS IN NIGERIA’. Many, on that day, will be hearing the gripping story of how he built his business from ground zero and with practically nothing.
THE CHAIRPERSON: The day’s activities will be chaired by a true woman of substance – Dr. (Mrs.) Nike Akande, OON. The elegant and admirable woman who is a role model to many, beside being a one-time Minister of Industry, is currently the President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
THE GUEST OF HONOUR: To play this role and also play it very effectively is Barrister Taiwo Adeoluwa, Secretary to the Ogun State Government. Adeoluwa has always been there for us, right from inception – and we are eternally grateful to him.
THE COMPERE: The compere, this time, will be the exponent of class act – the multi-talented Basorge Tariah, Jnr. The actor, singer, choreographer, director, dancer, producer will be bringing all these to play on that beautiful and blessed day as he handles the microphone.
THE CHIEF HOST AND YES CLASSIC’S UNVEILER: Who else could do this better than Prince Bisi Olatilo, the renowned and respected multi-lingual broadcaster? Uncle B, like we call him here, has been one of our biggest supporters and pillars – and for that and other reasons, the house unanimously zoned that role to the Chairman of Biscom Communications.
THE SHORT REMARKS: Annually, we normally get some people who have been monitoring our progress to tell us one or two things before everybody. For this year, that role will be played by Mr. Steve Ayorinde, Lagos State Commissioner for Information & Strategy; his Ogun State counterpart, Otunba Dayo Adeneye; Head of Airtel’s Corporate Affairs Department, Mr. Emeka Oparah and one of the best hands at the Lagos State House of Assembly in this current dispensation, the ever erudite Hon. (Barrister) Tunde Braimoh. Also Mr. Wole Arisekola, Chairman, Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON).
MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT: We have an A-list act who will be performing. But for now, we want to keep his identity a mystery. Beyond that, however, Africa’s No. 1 disc jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt, will be on the wheels of steel, doing what he knows best.
FOODS AND DRINKS: Of course, we never starve our guests. Therefore, adequate arrangements have been concluded with two of the leading finger foods companies – Adeedas and 12 Baskets. They will ensure that our tummies neither rumble nor grumble. Mrs. Victoria Bolanle Oginni of Blessed Water and Mr. Bashiru Olanrewaju Tanimowo of Labash will supply water and cocktail respectively – and they have assured us that everything will go round on that day.
THE EVENT ORGANISER: Our area of core competence is newsgathering and that is what we have always concentrated on, leaving other professionals to also handle theirs. Our event organizer is Abiodun Oshinibosi of Abelinis. Popularly known as The Project Marshals, they have always lived up to that name ever since our path and theirs collided five years ago. Trust Abelinis, they have promised to surpass our expectations this year.
THE IV, LETTERS AND TEXT MESSAGES: They will soon get to you. In a matter of days, all three will be yours, especially if you are already on our mailing list. So, don’t panic, don’t fret, just relax. And keep it in mind that the date remains Monday, June 20, 2016; the time – 11am and the venue – NIIA, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Thanks and God bless you!
